BOSS BREACH™ is used to model the linear and non-linear failure of earthen dams and levees due to either overtopping or piping failure. It will predict the breach characteristics, such as size, shape, and time of formation, as well as will graph the computed breach outflow hydrograph.

Linear and Non-linear Failure Analysis of Earthen Dams and Levees

BOSS BREACH™ is used to model the linear and non-linear failure of earthen dams and levees. The software can account for both overtopping and piping failure processes. By defining different confidence intervals for the earthen materials used to construct the dam or levee structure, the user can quickly develop the failure mode that the structure could fail as. BOSS BREACH is used by FERC, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, state regulatory agencies, and consultants worldwide. BOSS BREACH runs on Windows 2000, XP, and Vista. Both US and metric (SI) units are supported.

Typical complexities BOSS BREACH can address include:

  • Piping, overtopping, and progressing failure mechanisms
  • Man-made earthen dam failure analysis
  • Naturally formed (from a landslide) dam failure
  • Levee failure analysis
  • Inner and outer core materials
  • Tailwater submergence effects
  • Various spillway and turbine operating conditions
